TV console

We moved into our new house about a month and a half ago, bringing a lot of our old furniture from our previous home to be used for the meantime. These furniture were mostly cheaper 'placeholders' before I find something more pretty and value for money to replace it with. 

I currently have a TV console that we bought for our previous apartment from Houz Depot, and it cost us about RM200. It was relatively cheap, although not pretty (cherry-coloured, fibre board), it has been serving us for the past 2 years quite well. 

Now that we have moved in the new house, my quest for new furniture begins! Okay, I've still got to wait until the baby comes out plus another 40 days of confinement. Sigh.

I'm thinking of getting the Ikea Besta cabinet, it looks great here.

I like the 2 little baskets in the small shelf. So last night I looked it up under the Ikea online catalogue and found it. Here it is!

It costs RM944. And that's not including castors and other stuff required. Not sure if the hubby would be willing to fork up the money. But as usual, we always prefer to see it first before actually purchasing to see whether it would be worth the money. Of course it looks gorgeous in the first photo, right?

niches

I like the idea of having niches here and there around the house... those small spaces where you can retreat to and perhaps enjoy a good book.

Lately, I've been seeing niches used in walls to keep pretty vignettes, books and especially bathroom supplies.

Here are some of my favourite bathroom niches for you to enjoy.

Wall niches are usually found in beautiful bathrooms, due to their streamlined look and simplicity. I love the one in the photo above. It looks so elegant.

I'm really liking the off-white cabinets, the marble countertops and the backsplash. I also love that open shelf showing a collection of books and mixing bowls.

I love the glass pendant lamps, the simple cabinetry and a mix of hardware used. And a kitchen can never have enough drawers!

reading nooks

I had written a post last week about breakfast nooks, which inspired me to write about reading nooks!

I love having a little space to sit down in quiet (which is rare) and flip through favourite magazines and books for inspiration.

I love the green used in this room. The leaning book shelf is also pretty - not your regular book case, which caught my eye. 

Eclectic Revisited

Having a single arm chair or a wingback chair against a bookshelf totally says, "leave me alone as I read in peace" without actually saying it out loud. :-) I love how they have creatively leaned artwork against the wall on the bookshelf, too.

Nicespace

You may not require a bookshelf to have a reading nook. Just a spot next to the window and a stack of your favourite books on the window sill would do. Isn't that pretty and inviting?

open shelves

I've decided (well, for now before we really start renovation) that we'll be going for open shelves. It's cheaper than having upper cabinets (yes, we have a budget). And since our kitchen is rather small, upper cabinets may make it look smaller than it already is.

With open shelving, however, you need to be extra organised and only put your best dinnerware on show.

I really like this kitchen. With the white shelves, they feature plates and bowls of the same blue and white stripes. Pretty!

This modern kitchen features white shelves without brackets and it also has light fixtures below them to highlight the shelves below. I love how they used white and grey cups and plates to fit in with the whole white-grey theme of this kitchen.

I love the airiness and open concept of this kitchen. The use of mixed materials - wood table, fabric skirted sink, concrete countertops, and stainless steel oven stove makes this kitchen unique and beautiful. I saw this house in the book Decorate, and I fell in love with it.
