white fan

You don't really see ceiling fans in interior photos, but when they do, I'll be among the first to notice. Why? Because having a ceiling fan in this hot humid weather of Malaysia is compulsory. Every room must have one. And I like to see the kind of fans decorators use for their homes so that I can make the right choices for my own.

Well, some people go for air conditioning sans the ceiling fan, but I've always preferred the good old ceiling fan. Mostly because air conditioners makes my skin dry.

Anyways... we have to start looking for fans in our new house. And I'm digging white ceiling fans. Not those contractor-chosen white fans (that is being used in my current apartment) we see often.

But something like the one in this photo.

Okay, too bad that we can only see like, three fourths of the fan... well, I did tell you ceiling fans rarely show up in photos of beautiful rooms. And, might I say, this room is beautiful. Loving the window seat and the collection of blue and beige pillows.

So, if you're a Malaysian, please tell me where I can find a white fan similar to the one in this photo!

Much appreciated! Have a lovely week ahead!

stripes!

If there was one pattern that I had to choose among all patterns, it would be stripes.

I am loving this pattern that never goes out of style - be it on furniture, walls or floors.

This room has gone all out with beautiful grey stripes on the bed, the floors and even on the clothes hanging on those hooks. I love the beachy relaxed feel of this bedroom.

House Beautiful
I like large stripes on the walls - the stripes used in this room brings out a modern edge to this otherwise feminine room. I'm loving the colour palette of blues, greys and light browns.

How about horizontal stripes on the wall? I love this bold and beautiful dining room.

Stripes look great on upholstered pieces too. I adore this combination of a striped sofa and burlap pillows for an authentic and rustic feel.

Colourful stripes look great on these wing chairs!

If you're not that bold to go big on stripes...

... they make a great pattern on throw pillows when paired together with plain ones.

I love this breakfast nook overlooking a great view. Stripes on the throw pillows looks great.

Or you can bring in some stripes on your floors from rugs...

So what do you think of stripes? I would like mine on throw pillows and smaller pieces of furniture like a wing chair or a one-seater.

And I would totally consider using stripes in a kids' room!

red nook

I wrote about breakfast nooks the other day. So we've decided that we can't afford to have one in the house, for now.

But it still has not deterred me from finding beautiful pictures of breakfast nooks on Pinterest!.

I'm loving this one right now.

I've never been a fan of red, but this crimson looks so pretty. I'm loving the exposed wood beam, the raw plaster walls, the linen table cloth with the red stripes. And floral pillows matched with striped pillows look great, too.

Lovely!

My favourites from Phoebe Howard

I've been a long-time fan of Phoebe Howard - I admire her work as she brings an elegant touch to all of the rooms she decorates.

Her signature style is her use of neutral, soft colours and her rooms are almost perfectly balanced. I believe she is a perfectionist in her work.

Here are some of my favourite rooms decorated by Phoebe Howard.

Her use of blues and greys in her rooms are gorgeous.
Mrs Howard Personal Shopper

She usually hangs mirrors vertically, flanked by photo frames and a sunburst/round mirror centred above...

The below photo is simply beautiful...

Her bedrooms are usually my favourites...

I love how she often uses a chest of drawers on the left of the bed and a desk on the right side of the bed in the photo above.

Pale blues and dark brown wood make a perfect palette. I absolutely love that window seat.

She uses a lot of fabrics for her beds...

A wonderful pink bedroom...

This room is blue and pink. I love the soft pink roman blinds.

The room below is beautiful. I love how she uses silk sheers for roman blinds and thick curtain panels. An elegant bench at the end of the bed is gorgeous.
I can't help but notice how terrified that cat looks!

Greens make this guest room calm and serene. I wouldn't mind staying the night here!

A more modern bedroom - clean and perfectly made bed.

I could spend all day staring at Phoebe Howard decorated rooms!

thank goodness it's Friday!

Don't you love that today is Friday?

The sky is bluer, the sun is shinier (is there such a thing?), the grass is greener, and the house is cleaner. It isn't really, but just because its Friday, it feels that way.

Wouldn't it be great to wake up every morning feeling that way?

Having a room to wake in looking something like this wouldn't be too bad, too.

I love the windows and their sheer half-shades. Beautiful rug faded over time. A charming chair by the window. Gorgeous!

Have a wonderful Friday, all!

Pink!

I remember reading this magazine in the Summer of 2008 (there's no Summer here in Malaysia, but it was the Summer edition of the magazine)...

When I saw this particular article and its rooms, I was very inspired. I love how the designer, Liz Williams chose the vintage carpet as her point of determining the theme colours of the room.

The pink from the carpet was further highlighted with bright pinks in the throw pillows on the sofa and arm chairs. I've never been a fan of pink, but I definitely love it here!

On a side note, I also love the curtains used in the room below of the same house. So rich and classy.

window seats

I've always loved window seats. To me, they denote comfort, coziness and a perfect retreat for a busy day.

I would love to have a window seat in my house someday. A window seat next to a bookshelf would be just perfect. Like this one.
